You Can’t Do It All Alone

We all love the image of the lone genius.
Steve Jobs in his garage.
Elon Musk sketching rocket designs.
The founder who "did it all alone."
But authentic leadership is much messier and more human.
When we started Boulevard Group, I thought I had to be the visionary, the strategist, the operator, and the execution arm all at once.
The pressure almost broke me.
Until I sat with a mentor who said:
“If your dream only has room for you, it’s not big enough.”
From that point forward, I built with people, not just for them.
And the result was momentum, sanity and impact.
Collaborative Visioning for Leaders
The lone leader myth is one of the most dangerous lies in leadership.
This is why and how to replace it:
✅ Why You Need to Break the Myth
It leads to burnout
It limits your thinking
It robs your team of ownership
✅ Build Together Instead
Use this simple 3-part framework:
1. Involve Early
→ Share vision drafts with key stakeholders before finalising.
→ Ask: “What would this look like with your fingerprints on it?”
2. Delegate Loudly
→ Not just what to do, but why it matters.
→ Example: “I’m trusting you with this because it shapes our long-term culture.”
3. Credit Publicly
→ Make celebration a team habit.
→ Spotlight contributions in meetings, reports, and even LinkedIn posts.
This builds not just execution, but shared ownership.
And shared ownership scales your leadership.

I used to believe that a great leader had to be the most intelligent person in the room.
Now, I strive to be the one who asks the best questions, sees people clearly, and creates space for their brilliance to shine.
This past week, one of my team members made a suggestion that completely changed the flow of our client onboarding.
Not only did it improve the experience, but it reminded me that great leaders make space for others to shine.
Your spotlight doesn’t dim when others shine.
It multiplies.
✅ What to do this week:
Ask your team: “What would you do differently if you were leading this?”
List three areas where you’re doing too much alone
Share credit loudly. Someone’s waiting to be seen.
Tag a leader who builds with others, not just above them.
And forward this to a colleague who's carrying too much on their own.
